Injured Guest Ngakes the Flamingo Las Vegas to Court

Flamingo Las Vegas has again found itself under fire due to a visitor injury. According to reports, the unfortunate man’s foot got stuck in an escalator and was badly hurt. The victim is now suing the casino hotel and the escalator company.

Malfunctioning Machine Mangled the Man’s Foot

According to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the original incident happened in October 2023 when Scotty Southwell, the man in question, was visiting the Flamingo Las Vegas from California. During his time as a guest at the hotel, his foot got trapped within the stairwell of the escalator, resulting in serious injuries.

The complaint elaborates that the victim’s limb got stuck in the escalator’s moving parts and was mangled. The injuries required “immediate and subsequent” treatment, according to the complaint.

The Review-Journal added that the lawsuit was initiated on September 2 in Clark County District Court. The Flamingo Las Vegas and Schindler Elevator Corp., which was responsible for maintaining the faulty machine, have been named as defendants and accused of negligence and bad training practices.  

The Victim Is Seeking Damages

While the complaint is somewhat vague as to which component malfunctioned and caused the damage, it made it clear that the injury was both serious and preventable. According to the lawsuit, Southwell’s injuries are a “direct result” of the casino company and its partner’s negligence and failure to install “proper warning signs to indicate a dangerous and/or hazardous condition existed on the subject premise.”

The complainant is now seeking damages in excess of $15,000. He is also seeking special damages and economic damages, the size of which will be determined during the trial.

The Review-Journal noted that neither the Flamingo nor Schindler has responded to requests for comment.

Flamingo Visitor Was Outraged by the Hotel’s Early Check-in Fees

A few months ago, the Flamingo found itself in hot water after guests learned that early check-in requires a significant fee. A guest who was visiting the Las Vegas Strip realized that, as he arrived shortly after 1 pm and was told by the hotel’s digital kiosk that he could either wait until 3:30 pm or pay half the average weekend room rate to check in earlier.

The visitor complained about his experience on X, expressing outrage about the mounting extra fees that Las Vegas visitors have to pay.
